Brian Welsch
Head Coach/ Program Coordinator
My love for volleyball started in 2001 playing sand/beach 2’s. It grew exponentially learning the indoor game at UGA on the men's club team and evolved into grass 3’s and 4’s as an adult. I respect and appreciate both the finesse and ball control of the outdoor game and the speed, power, and specialization of the indoor game.
I have coached since 2005 starting with JV volleyball at Athens Academy and assisting with the women's club team at UGA. in 2007 I was hired at Brookwood High School as the varsity coach and remained there until I took over at Forsyth Central in 2016. I have coached travel/club volleyball with several clubs roughly from 2007-2022. I have officiated at the club level and I had the opportunity for three years to be a part of the all tournament team at USAV nationals.
Outside of volleyball, I have loved teaching health and PE since 2007. I have a daughter that loves sports and is currently a softball player, but she dabbles in swimming, volleyball, golf, and pickleball plus a little tumbling. I love spending time with my fiancé. And, in my down time I love fitness, golf, and travelling to new places.
Volleyball has been a part of my life since I first stepped onto a co-ed court in middle school. After playing as a kid and playing with my fraternity’s intramural team, I realized my true calling was in coaching and program development. Since 2001, I’ve had the privilege of coaching athletes across Georgia and Texas, ranging from middle school teams to Varsity programs and local Atlanta clubs.
Teaching is my other great passion; I’ve been in the classroom since 1999 and currently teach AP Psychology. I believe my experience coaching multiple sports—like track, basketball, and lacrosse—helps me bring a well-rounded perspective to our volleyball program.
Family is everything to me. My wife and I are the proud parents of three boys: a robotics-loving future engineer, a recent grad and Special Olympics participant, and a middle school soccer player. When I'm not on the sidelines, you’ll find us outdoors or hanging out with the family finding new places to visit, watching sports, or finding new places to visit.
